You don’t need a keyboard to lead… you only need the desire to make something happen.

The explosion in tribes, groups, covens and cirles of interest means that anyone who wants to make a difference can.

Wihout leaders, there is no followers.
You’re a leader.
We need you.

Do you believe in what you do? Every day? It turns out that belief happens to be a brilliant strategy.

Fear of change is built into most organism, beacause change is the first sign of risk.

Heretics are the new leaders. The ones who challenge the status quo, who get out infront of their tribes, who create movements.

Tribes give you leverage.

Leadership isn’t difficult, but you’ve been trained for years to avoid it.

Leaders have followers. Managers have employees.
Managers make widgets. Leaders make change.

What people are afraid of isn’t failure. It’s blame. Criticism.
We choose not to be remarkable because we’re worried about criticism.

How can I create something that critics will criticize?

Marketing is the act of telling stories about the things we make – stories that sell and stories that spread.

Fans demand generosity and bravery.

In a battle between two ideas, the best one doesn’t necessarily win. No, the idea that wins is the one with the most fearless heretic behind it.

The essence of leadership is being aware of your fear (and seeing it in the people you wish to lead). No, it won’t go away, but awareness is the key to making progress.

Challenging the status quo requires a commitment, both public and private. It involves reaching out to others and putting your ideas on the line.

It’s nice to get paid. It’s essential to believe.

Facebook goes in the opposite direction of Twitter. Instead of forcing you to use just a few characters, it enables a huge range of images, text, and connections to be created. Facebook surfaces what some are calling the social graph.

It’s unconfortable to stand up in front of strangers.
It’s unconfortable to propose an idea that might fail.
It’s unconfortable to challenge the status quo.
It’s unconfortable to resist the urge to settle.
When you identify the disconfort, you’ve found the place where a leader is needed.

Nothing online is even close to a substitute for the hard work and generosity that comes from leadership. But these tooles make leadership more powerful and productive, regardless of who’s in your tribe.

Most people like the products they already have, so marketers ignore them.

In an era of grassroots change, the top of the pyramid is too far away from where the action is to make much of a difference. It takes too long and it lacks impact. The top isn’t the top anymore because the streets are where the action is.

People who challenge and then change the status quo do something that’s quite difficult. They overcome the resistance of people they trust, people they work for, people in their community.

When you fall in love with the system, you lose the ability to grow.

The easiest thing is to react.
The second easiest thing is to respond.
But the hardest thing is to initiate.

Leaders don’t have things happend to them. They do things.

Create change before change happens to you.

Transparency really is your only option. People can smell subterfuge from a mile away.

Every Tribe Is a Media Channel

The secret of being wrong isn’t to avoid being wrong!
The secret is realizing that wrong isn’t fatal.

The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow.

If you insist on playing today’s games by yesterday’s rules, you’re stuck.

If you hear my idea but don’t believe it, that’s not your fault; it’s mine.

The largest enemy of change and leadership isn’t a “no”. It’s a “not yet”.

Change almost never fails because it’s too early. It almost always fails because it’s too late.
There is a small price for being too early, but a huge penalty for being too late.

Cynicism is a lousy strategy.

Hope without a strategy doesn’t generate leadership.

Caring is the key emotion at the center of the tribe.
If no one cares, then you have no tribe.

Create a culture around their goal and involve others in that culture.

Charisma is a choice, not a gift.

Leadership is the art of giving people a platform for spreading ideas that work.

Part of the leadership is the ability to stick with the dream for a long time.

Flynn Berry wrote that you should never use the word “opportunity”. It’s not an opportunity, it’s an obligation.
